Yes, I believe it to be an advantage that there are some original
authors around who retain their copyright on the work. That way there
will always be somebody who feels responsible about the upstream project
which can be a crucial advantage when it f.i. comes to security related
issues. Otherwise the whole burden to get things right resides on the
distributors.
