I read the CAL, or at least your intended scope of copyleft, to force
the licensing of apps that run on Holochain to use an open source
license and that they cannot be under a proprietary license. In your
first iteration of the license, you were clear that making software that
uses CAL-licensed APIs would be covered by the license. Therefore, if I
distribute an application that uses the Holochain APIs but nothing more
of Holochain that the APIs, then I am distributing a Modified Work.
Section 4.1.2 say "You must provide to each Recipient of a Modified Work
Access to Source Code corresponding to those portions of the Work
remaining in the Modified Work as well as the modifications used by You
to create the Modified Work. The Source Code corresponding to the
modifications in the Modified Work must be provided to the Recipient
either a) under this License, or b) under a Compatible Open Source
License," with compatible open source license defined.
The Holochain website talks about doing things like running a social
network client. Would that social network software have to be under an
open source license?
