We had a board meeting yesterday (Wednesday -- moved a week later from
our usual first week due to JavaOne). The board voted to "return the
UOML License to the submitter for justification due to similarity to
the SISSL". A lot of work went into the creation and approval of the
SISSL. It sure looks like the UOML License intends to solve the same
problem, so why not use the SISSL?
Given the board vote, you should re-submit your license following the
procedure here: http://opensource.org/approval . Include "Compare to
and contrast with the most similar OSI-approved license(s)".
I would further point out that as far as we know, the SISSL is a
failure. Not even Sun uses it anymore, and we know of no current
users. Given that the license has been around for a while and yet
nobody uses it, you should hesitate to try to solve this problem using
a copyright license.
