QT and the GPL

I think the biggest motivation for TrollTech to multiple-license
Qt is to create a de facto standard, to try to overtake Gtk+.
They surely seen that Gtk+ is the prefered toolkit for the Linux
users and considered the GPLing as a way to survive.

IHMO the Qt toolkit is technically superior to Gtk+, but the
weird Qt license and the unknown future of the library made
most developer prefer Gtk+.  In fact, the developpers had to choose
between the freedom and the features ; most of them prefered the
freedom (like Richard Stallman).

Now both libraries have almost the total freedom and the programmers
can really choose the technically superior one...
