Back in the 90's it seemed odd to me that a lot of "freeware" (which often
didn't come with source code) didn't quality as Free Software, but here we are.

Not all creative commons is open source. You're arguing about what is and isn't
open source... with OSI. (Bruce wrote the original "open source definition"
document, by the way.)
