They are definitely not a good example, The Bitkeeper license did not 
"just ask", the language meant to compel. And there were issues far 
beyond the license, which I will refrain from dredging up again.

Others have "just asked" regarding an attribution badge, and have gotten 
good results.

Any software that depends on outside people to do its computation must 
have a way of checking the result, and it just has to throw away bad 
computation. Whether or not you give away source, people are going to 
mess with the code.
