Yes, you're right that it's vague.  However, it's a fairly common style
(see e.g.
http://www.google.com/codesearch?hl=en&q=+Copyright+\d{4}-\d{4}), so I
thought I'd mention it.

The style you gave is more explicit about who did what when.
