CSuite (for Chebucto Suite) is multilingual software for Community
Nets and is in use in 20+ communities in Canada and in the United
States. ( http://www.csuite.ns.ca)

It consists of several software programs developed elsewhere (Pine,
Lynx, majordomo, apache, zmailer and others) modified for integration
and combined with other programs, mostly scripts, written by CSuite
volunteers and staff.

We are continuing development and see real benefits to being OSI
certified.

Could you please indicate what steps we would have to undertake to be
accepted as open source.

Here is the license we currently use.

                      CHEBUCTO SUITE LICENSE AGREEMENT

This License Agreement is between ______________________________ (you,
the end user), and the CSuite Networking Cooperative (the "Coop") or
an assignee of the Coop. The software which accompanies this License
Agreement, entitled Chebucto Suite/CSUITE (the "Software") is the
property of the Coop and/or its licensors and is protected by
copyright law. While the Coop and/or its licensors continue to own the
Software, and all title and interest in the Software, you the
"Licensee") will have certain rights to use the Software only upon the
terms and conditions of this License Agreement. Your rights and
obligations with respect to the use of the Software are as follows :

1. License

The Coop grants to the Licensee a non-exclusive right to use the
Software for a period of one (1) year so long as the Licensee abides
by the terms and conditions of this License Agreement. The Coop
specifically reserves all right, title and interest in and to the
Software not expressly granted to the Licensee. In order to avail
itself of the rights granted by this License Agreement, the Licensee
must be an organization which intends to use the Software to establish
and operate a community computer network which presents no barriers to
access, economic or otherwise.

With respect to organizations for which membership or usage fees are a
normal requirement, the "no barriers to access, economic or otherwise"
requirement is satisfied if the organization is willing to extend
service to any individual who requests the service while professing a
limited ability or no ability to meet the normal requirements
(including financial) and this policy must be clearly revealed in
printed or on-line documents relating to the organization's policies,
membership requirements and/or fee structures.

For organizations which are unable to provide the prima facie proof
indicated in the preceding paragraph, the License granted by this
License Agreement is only available upon written application, and
acceptance by the Coop, which application should include an
explanation of how, in the absence of the above described proof, the
organization supports the goal of universal access to information, and
how the organization proposes to extend access to community
information to economic and/or cultural groups who currently lack this
access . The Coop shall solely determine whether any organization
meets the required criteria. The granting of the License contemplated
by this License Agreement in response to an application shall be at
the sole discretion of the Board of Directors of the Coop, or a
committee of the Board or the Board's assignee.

2 Use

As a Licensee, you may use the Software solely for the development of
a community computer network which provides individuals, and community
groups, access to a local community information resource.

Without limiting the preceding, access to this local community
information resource may include:

 (i) making this local information available worldwide via the
 Internet; and/or

(ii) providing users of the Software with access to a global
information base through the Internet; and/or

(iii) the utilization of other technologies that broaden public access
to the local community information resource benefit the local
 community.

3. Permission to Modify

The Licensee is granted permission to modify the Software code for the
purpose e of eliminating bugs and enhancing functionality, provided
that any such changes are forwarded to the Chebucto Suite Development
Team, c/o Chebucto Community Net, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada,
e-mail: csuite at chebucto.ns.ca, for possible incorporation into future
versions of the Software. Copyright of all contributed code will be
held jointly by the Coop or its assignees and the contributor. All
contributed code will be distributed under a standard Chebucto Suite
Copyright Notice.

4. Copyright

The copyright and all other right, title and interest in the Software
and any related written materials, otherwise then as expressly granted
in this License Agreement, resides solely with the Coop and its
licensors. Unauthorized copying, otherwise than as provided for in
this License Agreement, is expressly forbidden. In accepting the terms
of this License Agreement, you, the Licensee, acknowledged that some
components of the Software are developed elsewhere by other
individuals and covered by other copyright and distribution agreements
and that the Licensee is bound by the copyright and distribution
restrictions relative to that material. The Coop does not represent or
warrant that the Software is free from copyright rights, other than
those of the Coop, and any Licensee uses the Software solely at its
own risk.

5. Warranty

The Software is provided by the Coop "AS IS" and there is no warranty
provided with respect to the Software. Any express or implied
warranties, including, but not limited to, the implied warranties of
quality merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose are
expressly disclaimed . The entire risk as to the quality and
performance of the Software resides wit h the user. In no event shall
the Coop or any contributors to the Software be liable for any direct,
indirect, incidental, special, exemplary or consequential damages,
including, but not limited to, procurement of substitute goods or
services, loss of use, data, profits, or data being rendered
inaccurate, or losses sustained by the Licensee or third parties, or a
failure of the Software to operate with any other Software or
programs, or business interruption, howsoever caused and on any theory
of liability, whether in contract, strict liability, or tort
(including negligence or otherwise) arising in any way out of the use
of the Software, even if advised of the possibility of such damage.

6. Prohibited Use

As the Licensee you may not:

 (i) distribute copies of the Software or accompanying related
 materials to any other individual or organization;

(ii) modify, adapt, translate, reverse engineer, decompile,
disassemble, or create derivative works based on the Software otherwise

7. Termination

This License Agreement shall terminate automatically upon any breach
of the terms of this License Agreement by the Licensee. Within 60 days
of such termination, the Licensee shall enter into a new Licence
Agreement with the Coop or cease to use the Software and any related
materials. The limitation on warranties set out in Clause 5 shall
survive any termination of this License Agreement.

8. Acknowledgment

As a condition of this License Agreement, the Licensee is required to
give prominent recognition to the Software, the Chebucto Community Net
Society, and its volunteers.

This recognition shall be in the form of the "acknowledgments.html"
document distributed with the Software. This document shall be
accessible via an "acknowledgment" link located on the first page
presented to registered users .

The Licensee is permitted to modify this acknowledgments file to
acknowledge other contributions to its organization with the provision
that the acknowledgment relating to the Software and the Chebucto
Community Net Society is not altered without express written
permission, that it be visible on the first screen displayed by the
browser, and that it be superseded only by an acknowledgment of the
efforts of the Licensee's own volunteers.

9. Provision of Current Information

The Licensee is required to provide regular reports of system/hardware
configuration, system usage/trends, user statistics (such as services
utilized), etc. to the Coop. These reports will be available to all
sites for analysis to assist in the identification upgrade strategies
that will benefit Chebucto Suite sites.

10. Entire Agreement

This License Agreement is the entire Agreement between the parties
with respect to the Software and accompanying related materials, and
supersedes an y other agreement or discussions, oral or written. This
License Agreement may not be changed except by written amendments
signed by the Licensee and the Coop. No provision of this License
Agreement may be waived except in writing signed by the party giving
the waiver. Only a signing officer or director of the Coop has the
