In a late night session on Wednesday April 13th,2016 the San Francisco
Democratic County Central Committee announced the passage of a resolution
directing San Francisco County to fund the creation of the country’s first
complete open source voting system slated for implementation by 2018. The
budget item is currently under consideration by San Francisco’s Mayor Lee
following unanimous resolutions by the Board of Supervisors and the
Elections Commission. Open source election software has previously been
adopted by the California Democratic Party within their voting rights
platform. “ This is another victory for transparency and security reforms “
stated California Association of Voting Officials ( CAVO ) board member Alec
Bash <https://www.facebook.com/alec.bash> ( pictured above ) “ We want to
make sure the votes are counted as cast “ . Bash pointed out that the
systems currently used for U. S elections utilize the same proprietary
software scheme that made national headlines in the 2004 Bush vs Kerry
election as well as the 2006 Christine Jennings race in Sarasota, Florida
where 18,000 e-votes went missing [image: Inline image 1]

San Francisco County’s Department of Elections recently earmarked 2.3
million dollars for the creation of an open source election system and the
issue is in front of the Committee on Information Technology ( COIT )
Friday, April 15th , 2016. “ Once San Francisco moves forward there will
many jurisdictions in California and other states participating “ said CAVO
Secretary Brent Turner <https://www.facebook.com/brent.turner.71619>, “
This project will set precedent for election system security nationally.
Currently the State of California is contemplating next steps for voting
systems. The open source voting plan will save the state millions of
dollars and upgrade the efficiency of the systems dramatically ” For more
