Eliot,

I am still very troubled by this part (emphasis):

> Service Source Code” means the Corresponding Source for the Program or a modified version, and the Corresponding Source for all programs (other than programs that are Major Components or System Libraries) that you use to make the Program or modified version available as a service, **including, without limitation, management software, user interfaces, application program interfaces, automation software, monitoring software, backup software, and host orchestration software, all such that a user could run an instance of the service using the Service Source Code you make available. **

It's only me seeing this as a limitation of use of the software so that it cannot be used **along with** some other software, ie, proprietary one, which has no relation with the licensed software under copyright or other right controlled by the licensor?

It's the same as saying "you can't run Oracle on Linux unless you license Oracle under a compatible license". As I cannot do that, I can't use Linux for that purpose. This is not copyleft anymore, it's a limitation of the commons that FOSS create. It's again the same idea as "this software can't be used to make proprietary software, albeit non derivative and totally functionally separate". It's a radical departure from what was done for GCC for example. And there, **some** derivativeness and copyright title existed (that's why we have LGPL).

My stance is that this violates #6. And it's still too broad and indefinite.

I urge outright rejection, unless we redefine copyleft in a functional rather than copyright-like way, contrary to all theories of separateness of software working through interfaces (which might run afoul of European laws on interfaces and interoperability, with unforeseeable consequences).
