I pointed out at the beginning that given the intent was to promote a dual licensing business model and it would be very hard to game the license to be both OSD compliant and make commercial users need/want to pay for a commercial license.

The objective isn’t bad and I can believe his programmer friends/customers like the concept of “use my stuff for free for fun, but if you make money from it pay me in money or code in return”.  I like it too.  Unfortunately, it just isn’t open source.

Developers achieve this outcome by simply selling a proprietary license and letting open source projects use their developer tooling for free or having a pro version and an open source community version.  Neither requires L0R and the issues that arise by tying compliance to use.
