Dear OSI members:

After an intensive discussion with IPA, we are pleased to inform you
that
we have revised the draft license in a significant way.

The full text of the revised draft license can be found at the following
URL:

http://ipafont.ipa.go.jp/enduser_license_draft090304.html
(clean revised draft of the IPA Font License v1.0)

http://ipafont.ipa.go.jp/enduser_license_draft090304.pdf
(redline version from the last draft in PDF to check the revision)

The following is the main change we have made in this draft.

1) IPA agrees that the difference file system adds complication.
Therefore, IPA decides to drop all the requirements regarding the
difference file, and thus, also deleted the definition of the difference
file.
-  Article 1 paragraph 8 --> Deleted,
-  Article 2 paragraph 6 --> revised,
-  Article 3 paragraph 1 --> revised.

2) given the discussion about the source code / binary code etc,
we have asked to make available the font file as well as any additional
file created by the font developing program in the course of creating
the Derived Program that can be used for further modification of the
Derived Program, if any (See Article 3 Paragraph 1 (1)).

3) Made the language in Article 2 paragraph 4 more clear to show that
usage and distribution of SVG document file (such as PDF) that embeds
Licensed Program as Embedded Fonts is not subject to this Agreement:
however, if someone creates Derived Program by extracting such Embedded
Fonts, the Agreement shall apply.

Hope you find these amendments to be an improvement to the draft
license, and hope you find this license comply with the OSD.

Kind regards,

Yuko Noguchi
