I'm the chair of the license approval committee. This is my report
for the current set of licenses under discussion. The OSI board will
be meeting September 10th.
Title: RTEMS license
Comments: They're using the GPLv2 plus extra permissions.
Recommend: reassure submittor that it's okay to give people extra
freedoms by voting to approve the practice of using an OSI-approved
license in conjunction with a licensing announcement that removes
restrictions on the licensee.
Title: MirOS License
Comments: The license is obviously OSD compliant, but it is Yet
Another academic license of limited difference and limited value.
I've asked him to use an existing academic license, but he refuses.
I've offered to modify an existing license to make it into a
template which will match his license and allow him to use the
trademark. He's uninterested.
Title: Iggy Wanna License (IWL)
License: In the submission
Comments: It's hard to believe that the "Iguana License" is a
serious submission, but the author behaves as if he's serious.
Lacking any stronger indication that it's a joke license than the
joke name, I'm taking it seriously.
The license violates at least #9 "License Must Not Restrict Other
Software" of the OSD because it intends to impose requirements on
software that merely uses IWL licensed software.
Title: University Jaume I License (UJIL)
License: in the submission.
Comments: only licenses non-commercial use.
Title: Unstructured Operation Markup Language License (UOML License)
Comments: Requires conformance with a standard without specifying who
decides that conformance (which is in effect a conflict with OSD #7
"Distribution of License"), nor does it state what happens when
conformance has not been achieved.
