Not so fast.  What do you mean by "code compatibility"?  Do you mean
that you can use their code?  Sure, then the GPL is a great choice.
Do you mean that they can use your code?  Then the MIT or BSD license
are trivially more effective choices.  Do you mean that you can each
borrow each other's code freely?  Well then the GPL likely is the best
choice, but you need to examine your local code community to verify.
For instance for Perl projects the best choice turns out to be to dual
license under the GPL and the Artistic License v1.
