It was good to see initial OSD alternation attempts discussed on this
mailing list. I think that feedback was useful, even though the lack
of consensus was not enough to prevent the board from adopting the new
rules.

It would be great if drafts of virtually all important OSI statements are
publicly discussed before becoming official. As feedback on this list
shows, the Proliferation statement would have been significantly improved
as a result of such a discussion. Fewer good people would be offended (for
no good reason) or puzzled about OSI intentions, to start with.

OSI board have decided to enter a new territory of rating and managing
Open Source (i.e., OSD-compliant) licenses. A couple of wrong moves can
alienate a very large portion of the community that OSI have built.
Please be extra careful and at least use public review before making
any more changes.

If this mailing list needs to be moderated or otherwise managed to
reduce the noise level, OSI has the tools to do that.
