This is precisely why I'm asking for this clarification.  I would like 
to see this restriction relaxed generally.

That would be nice.  Especially since it would allow us to work with the 
KOffice folks.  They were interested in compiling POI via GCJ/Classpath 
and maybe poi'd just be the filter for KOffice.  It was judged to be too 
legally precarious to mess with.  A resolution of that issue would be 
nice. .  Of course...that is assuming the ASLv2 ever comes out ;-)
