curiously enough, this license:

highlights a recurring theme in this community that has yet to
be resolved in closed form. to wit, that license, like NPL/MPL
says (oversimplified): "here's some free software, but SGI retains
rights to copyright, patent, etc."

the recurring theme is that "big" organizations like Netscape and
others can craft these licenses, then presumably sway influence, get
the attention of, etc. OSI, etc. to get "a blessing" for a new license
which contains terms that grant the original contributor "special
rights and privileges." i'm not against those rights and privileges,
rather, i'd like to see a boilerplate open source license that allows
for organizations to fill in their name to assert rights in branded
code, etc. w/o having to make a completely new license by doing so.

perhaps SGI and others could take this gesture one step further to draft 
and rally support for yet another license which includes boilerplate 
usable by others wishing to assert these rights in contributions.
