Hi Luis,
Two calls ago, we agreed that it would be useful to provide information
about common legal tools and some of the ways they are used by people,
projects and companies to facilitate adoption and production of free and
open source software.
Here's the list of topics we want to cover:
* Copyright
"managing Inbound Contributions"
Ownership vs Provenance
Set developer expectations
Relicensing processes
"managing Outbound Distribution"
Liability
Distributability (do you have the rights you think you have to
distribute?)
* Trademark
How, When and Why To Register
Do trademarks empower or inhibit openness?
How Not To Infringe On Existing Marks
* Patents
How they interact with open source licenses
explicit patent licenses
implicit patent licenses
Defensive strategies
Non-aggression pacts, LOT, patent pledges, defensive publications
* Employment Agreements as they relate to your open source work
Trade secrets
In our most recent meeting, we noted that most of us seemed reluctant to
jump in solo on the wiki,
https://wiki.opensource.org/bin/Main/Projects/beyond-licensing/Legal+Considerations/
so we came up with a plan to schedule a group editing session.
The idea is to find a time when several committee participants can edit at
once so nobody feels like they are scooping the group.
The doodle poll to schedule is here, http://doodle.com/poll/xxcismxqiz6wyux7
Thanks,
Deb
